Distinctive new image for Heyn

28 September 2006

Heyn has recently updated its corporate identity to a modern 3-coloured visual interpretation of its business.

The company’s previous identity used arrows to symbolise a new direction and movement, as Heyn had relocated to new premises at Belfast Harbour.  This image has now been progressed to include a symbolic synopsis of the handling solutions Heyn offers to industry.

The logo consists of two coloured right-angled brackets with blue squares.  The red bracket and lower square symbolises a fork truck carrying a load, while the yellow bracket and square interprets a crane carrying a load.  Together, both of these images enclose the Heyn ‘H’, and symbolises a container ship with cargo.

Heyn appointed marketing consultant Paula Dugan and local artist Colin Davis to create the new image.

Colin, who specialises in fine arts, painting and printmaking, is delighted with the finished result: “Heyn’s new logo has a three dimensional quality,   which evolves as you view it.

It has the ability to portray both positive and negative space, like the artist Escher’s play on perspective.  For example,  some people may at first only see the white ‘H’, while for others the right-angled materials handling symbols will greet the eye initially.

The layered formatting of the logo has also enabled  Heyn to visually represent the multi-faceted aspects of its business.”

Colin is exhibiting a piece during the month of October at the Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition at Ormeau Baths Gallery in Belfast.  His work can also be viewed at www.colouredrain.com and www.islandirishart.com.
